Data Protection Commission cookies sweep and Guidance Note

May 12, 2020

The Data Protection Commission has just issued new guidance on the use of ‘cookies’ and other tracking technologies in websites, apps and other digital platforms.

The comprehensive guidance note covers e-privacy regulations, consent, transparency, compliance and many other aspects of how personal information is gathered, stored and processed.

All data controllers are required to ensure that they are fully compliant with the relevant regulations and DPC guidelines by Monday 5 October 2020.  We strongly recommend that members study the new documents, which are available in the Member’s section, and take any required action well in advance of the October deadline.  You will need your login and password to access this resource.

The new guidance notes, which follow a ‘cookie sweep’ exercise by the DPC between August and December 2019, are designed to ensure that controllers are fully up-to-date with their legal and regulatory obligations
