At the 2025 Spotlight Awards, the PRCA introduced its Hall of Fame — a new way to honour those who have shaped the public relations profession in Ireland. Our very first inductee is someone who exemplifies leadership, values, and enduring contribution: Jim Walsh.

Jim’s career spans over five decades. He began as Publicity Manager with Gill and Macmillan, before moving to Kennys Public Relations as Deputy Managing Director.

In 1984, he founded Walsh PR — the agency that would become synonymous with his name and with excellence in Irish communications.

Over the years, Jim worked with more than 300 clients across sectors including food, construction, and security. From the Avonmore-Waterford Foods merger to his more recent work with St Vincent de Paul, his campaigns informed, inspired, and influenced.

But Jim didn’t just build an agency — he helped build a profession.

As a PRCA co-founder and former Chair, he led efforts to raise standards, define best practice, and ensure the industry was something we could all be proud of.

His influence also extended internationally. Jim joined the global PR network IPREX in 1998, later serving as EMEA Chair and Global President.

Even today, he continues to evolve. In 2024, Walsh PR rebranded as Walsh – Communication with Purpose — a reflection of his lifelong commitment to clarity, relevance, and responsibility.

That same spirit drives Off the Fence with Purpose, the podcast he co-hosts with Ellen Gunning, where he continues to shape the conversation around the future of PR.

Jim remains an active mentor and industry voice — a constant presence at PRCA meetings, where his questions are always thoughtful and driven by deep care for the profession.

We also acknowledge the support behind the success. Jim’s wife Sheila, his children Orla, Marc, and Graham, and the late AJ have all played a part in his remarkable journey.

Jim Walsh is the perfect first name for the PRCA Hall of Fame.

We thank him for his leadership, his legacy, and his lasting example.

Congratulations, Jim — and welcome.
